Agree with queenie here. Bleachy and the Old dude who got the investors are running with it. Thats smart. And any idiot who wants to dress like a poser or a slut can buy their clothes online too. Whatever.

Maloof is smart for getting another tv show into his hotel for the price of a tanning salon...500k maybe..rent free and he keeps the money..they wont see a dime of that...purely part of the hype and spin.

The IDIOTS are the people who think this assinine TV show will still be on the air when their salons get open. 35 salons in Dallas (where Robbie basically isn't, it is Planet Tan Tony and Palm Beach there)...
There "may be" a tiny novelty in a year when the 1st salons get opened, but the high pressure sales of lotion and the dipshit sheer stupidity of the organization as portrayed on TV will not encourage people to tan there. Quite the opposite as SunStyle in LA has shown Sunset tans of late.
It is just funny how people who know nothing about our industry jump on the wrong bandwagon.
If this dude was serious about tanning salons....he would hook up with Palm Beach as they actually might have some staying power. Or Robbie if he could tolerate working with an omniscient owner/partner.

I don't think there could be a tougher market to try and compete in. Trying to take market share away from Planet Tan, PBT, & Darque Tan???... no thanks.

Gary, I think a really good tropical themed ets salon with a kick ass name like "Tan yer bunz" or "tantastic" or " Let's go tan" would put the HURT on those corporate Ergoline buzzkill salons in Dallas!
Don'tcha think?

This production company sold this show to a TV network.

The TV network is, in my area, on basic cable.

If you think of everything that happened to go from their salon to our TV screens ... it's a combination of luck and working with skillful people along the way..

Is anyone really suggesting that the LA Sunset Tans owners should NOT try to strike while the iron is hot??
Brook Burke is part owner of Sunset Tan. She is the one with the connection to the E channel. She had a show on the E channel and I am sure she was a big part in getting them the show. I have been in a couple of Sunset Tan and my experience was nothing like the show. They have some very nice salons. As much as we all complain about the show, and rightly so, we would all love to have the advertizing that it generates.

The show is what it is, conflict, cattyness, and sex, that happens to take place in a tanning salon. Who would actually watch a show about the diference in a level 2 bronzer compared to a level 10 bronzer. How many times would you watch somebody skin type someone.

Haha.

I just don't understand the thought process here. I think Dallas would be the toughest market to try and compete in. I seriously don't see them getting past 2-3 stores before realizing they made a mistake. PBT is one thing, but trying to compete with Planet Tan????... Tony Hartl is an animal.

Just my 2 cents...

As of their last franchise agreement that i saw Their equipment mix is as follows...

"you must purchase or lease equipment to operate an LA Sunset Tan, including 7 sunergoline tanning beds, 1 mystic tan spray booth, and 1 caltan spray booth"

good luck with that ...especially in Dallas of all places

I would go to Joe's. At least I wouldnt be attacked by some dim witted bobblehead blondes who would try to sell me a lotion cuz "it's like, uhm, really really good".

My guess is that you'll never see any of the cast from the show working at the stores.
I have an employee going to Vegas in a few days and she is going to their new store in the Palms. We'll see if Janelle will be working there.

I thought Darque Tan (Robbie) already bought a Sunset Tan franchise. Why wouldn't he be the one to bring it into Texas if it was so lucrative, oh thats right he's smart.

Tomahawk -

Have you opened your first Sunset Franchise in Miami yet or when do you expect the first one to open? Are you getting a lot of interest in the franchise or do you plan to focus on your own corporate stores first?

I would never think the people from the show actually would work in the salons in real life. Just wouldnt happen. Besides the fact that they are incompetent, it wouldnt be good for the show.

But, the general perception by the public is that this is the kind of thing that goes on in the tanning world. And if I were jane tanner and saw a sunset tans salon, I would think twice before going there to tan.

Let me get this straight. Putting in 7 ergoline tanning beds, a mystic and a Cal Tan spray booth and some good decor requires you to FRANCHISE the LA Sunset Tans brand? I can't do the same thing and call it Sunset Tan? Or Miami Sunset Tan without paying a franchise fee and a percentage of profits (if any)?

Do I need to hire outa work porn stars too?

I am trying to figure out what they are selling that sets them apart from Joes Tanning Salon.
OHHHH, wait. Isn't JOES CRAB SHACK a successful chain of restaurants? Guess Joes can be a mighty fine name if the salon has 7 ergoline beds, a mystic and a cal tan sprayer.

I might open one with 8 ergoline beds and really kick their asses

It will be interesting to see where these salons are at 2 years from now. Their model obviously works in California. I'll be interested to see if it works in other parts of the country as well. PBT had some pretty big names investing in the beginning of their franchising too.
