where is gas $5.29? oil hit below $100 a barrel that is pure price gouging, no need for it to be that high. Should be hovering around $3.19-$3.25 soon if oil stays this low.

We're below $5 now!!! $4.89!!!

Local gas merchants are raving about how great they are for lowering the price today. That they are selling it for a lost. One of the main local gas retailer is supposedly going to be investigated for price gouging.

IMO this all started last Thursday mourning when the president of this company called the local news channel and told them they had ran out of gas at some of their gas stations and expected to run out at all their stores by the end of the weekend. And that $5 gas was coming.

Then the local news media flooded the market with that and everyone freaked. And .... now we have $5 gas. But apparently our area was not the only one.

The reason why gas went up and will go up in all areas right now, for at least a week or two, is because the refineries had to shut down because of the storms. Has NOTHING to do with the price of crude right now.

Everyone in the Guld will be back online with refining by Friday according to friends that work there. Actually, most will be up at full capacity by Wednesday.

You will still see some higher prices at the pump for a week or two just so they can recover some money. Wont be longer than that. Also, they (friends in the oil biz) think the prices will go back down to close to $3.00 again, maybe even right under again. Not real soon, but soon.

Wholesale gas went way down to $2.54 today on CNBC. That means we SHOULD be seeing near $2.99 at pumps not $4 or $5.

Add 10cents profit + 10cents delivery + 25cents tax to $2.54 = $2.99. We are STILL being gouged by the local suppliers and stations.

FYI, Oil prices are not directly tied, in real time, to gas prices.

On the way home tonight it was down to $4.29. So Thursday it was like $3.49. By Thursday night it was like $3.99. Then Friday mourning it was $4.49. By Friday night it $5. Then Sat and Sun it went as high as $5.59. Now on Monday it has dropped to $4.49 and now $4.29.

I'd like to never shop at any of these places again, but it was every single C-store in the area. The 2 or 3 big chains raised it, and all the rest followed.

Our news last night said some independents were at $3.99. They interview one independent who said he could not explain why others were selling well over $4.

Today the same president (of the large gas company who started the panic here) had a local press conference. He assure us they were not price gouging. They were selling for a lose. But he said the pipeline was back up and things should be back to normal in a few days.

We are paying $4.50 a gallon. Our prices have not fallen in conjuction with the price of oil.

I have a friend who runs a gas station. He showed me his bill. The total was 9200.00. 6600.00 for the gas and 2600.00 in gas taxes.

For how many gallons, though?

Well since some independents started selling at $3.99 the big chains are now at $3.99 too. The same "prez" was on the news yesterday talking about how he feels our pain, so he is lowering there prices even more to $3.99. He didn't mention that independents were already at $3.99.

The news also interviewed an old guy who runs a small station in a small local county. He was still selling at the old price of $3.49. He said he still had gas from before all of this and he was holding the price till he had to pay more for re-stock. Now that's a true American!

Beach, Frankies friend is paying 40% in just gas taxes on the fuel he buys. That is extreme. That is part of the reason gas is so high. Taxes vary from state to state. I can drive over to NJ and pay a good 10- 20 cents less than I do in PA. AND they are all full service!

If they were to drop the gas tax in every state, prices would go way down.

It just said on the radio that Gas is going down to 1.09 a litre here, which works out to $4.12. That's the cheapest i've seen it in ages.
