Default ITA Cancels Nashville for 2009(RUMOR)

This is to be confirmed but I have heard from a good source at the show that the ITA World Expo is canceled for 2009.

I guess it was a small turnout?

I think they are jumping the gun cancelling tho. It is a tough year for many. BUT, I think if they could figure out a way to move it to a different location, it would spark more interest. Back to Chicago????

Well I am at the show and haven't heard this. Why don't we all sit back and see what happens after the show.

If this is true:

I think the death of the ITA Nashville trade show was Ergoline launching it's regional trade shows in Vegas, Chicago and Orlando!

Any thoughts on how the ITA survives as a trade association without the fundraising mechanism that the expo provided?

I think that the ITA is in serious funding trouble without the World Expo.

It's up to member dues and/or donations.

I am not a fan of rumors. Drew posted one recently too (wrong, of course).

Unless you have evidence and not just hearsay you should probably keep your mouth shut.

My source says that canceling the 2009 show was voted on by ITA at the board meeting, this morning.

What was the purpose in starting a rumor when you really don't know? Maybe it will turn out to be fact but at this time it's just a rumor. You're not even here supporting the show but posting on all the sites that the show is over. Not really what I would expect a respectable vendor to be doing!

I assume your source was an ITA board member? I mean, why else would you post this?

Also, I heard that the ITA netted over 500K this year from the show. Wonder why they would vote to "cancel" 500k profit??

I am just reporting what I have heard from several people attending the show. I was just telling people that could not attend the show something that people on the trade show floor are talking about.

They maybe netting 500K this year but if exibitors are telling them they will be taking less space or not attending the show in 2009 then that could turn that profit to a loss.

In my view, The ITA can not afford a loss......

I just got back from the show and heard nothing of this. Greg I don't think we should be posting rumors. When the ITA makes an announcement that is a different thing but this could have a negative impact, something this industry doesn't need right now. Let's just stop gossiping unless there is an official announcement.

I didn't hear anything neither on the tradeshow floor. But who would tell me anywhere? I thought it was a decent crowd. About like last year. For me it was a perfect size crowd.

You could actually have productive disscussion with the vendor you needed/wanted to.

But it was not like the mega crowds of 5 to 10 years ago. I think when they cut back on giving out lotion samples (full bottles) was when the attendence declined.

Salons would bring the entire staff to trampled and pilage to get free bottles to take back and sell. It was a mad house! You couldn't conduct any business with the vendors.

I agree! We went to the show back in 2003 and couldn't have a conversation with anyone because of the crowds trying to get free stuff and then run to the next booth with their suitcases.

I bet attendance was less then last year. This also kept most other vendors home as the fees to exhibit are through the roof to show to crickets. The venue was probably squeezed into less square footage to make it seem like more or on par attendance but I bet Greg's rumor is true. I had predicted the other day that this show would be done.

The ITA never catered to the people that made the show the whole reason that it took place in the first place, to exhibit to the salon owner, but now they are finally making a move to listen since last year but it is too little too late.

Buh bye ITA. R.I.P.

This is still just a rumor. They had a meeting about it with key vendors, it isn't that the ITA Show is over for good, it is that they will be on a every other year schedule. The Solaria show is on odd years, which 2009 happens to be. It is very stressful for the big international companies to show at both places in 2009, Ergo, UWE, ISO, KBL & others have done both shows in the past just weeks apart.

The ITA is not going anywhere. We will see a change as I posted in the Tantoday blog. It will take time.

Greg why are you so interested anyway? You didn`t go to the show and to stay home and post something you know nothing about it just not right. Most of you posting in the negative tone do not know anything about the ITA. All you want to do is put them down.

Maybe when Rick gets home he will fill us in on what is REALLY happening.

^^^Agree with Phatt totally. Nashville is getting very stale. We need to get the show moved around and maybe get a little rejuvenation back in the industry. If we, the salon owners, are not excited how do we get our employees and clients excited?
