Don't let your personal attachments get in the way of running (a profitable) business. I'd fire my daughter and relplace her with someone better if it meant store survival. This is business, not personal...Watch the Godfather. Micheal Corleone always put business first..

Stop working shifts period. Never work a shift for your employee. After you do it once they will all be asking you everyday to take their place for every reason imaginable. I learned the hard way. For years when I had only one salon I was working shifts constanlty and couldn't get anything done. When I opened my second location I had to put my foot down. These are your shifts. If you need off, its your responsibility to get one of the other girls to take it. If no one can, you have to work it or you lose your job. Since then, I have less turn over and a lot more respect. I have four locations and never work any shifts. I do what owners do and make sure the managers (Clones)are doing their job! Most importantly go to any of my locations at any time.

Well, to begin with, I wouldn't believe what this new employee claims till you see it first hand. "Actions speak louder than words." I would give her a 30-60 day probation period to prove herself. If she is indeed all that she says, get rid of the others and keep her.
You could also hold a meeting with all of your employees. Explain to ALL of them that you need to let someone go. So if they want to keep their job, they need to stand out. See who brings in the most sales then.... |

Wow! I once hired a girl that I thought was going to be the best I ever had. She was in her 30's, so I thought much more mature. Figured she could relate to the older women that came in and guys of all ages. She was good looking, had a great personality, caught on quick...then she quit with no notice after 2 weeks because she's lazy and doesn't want to clean (I'm paraphrasing)

I think I'll just wait till Din gets his clone perfected. I could help test the prototype, also!!! |
