One of 16 year old female customers let her 15 year old Boyfriend in her room without us seeing him enter, After my empolyee noticed that the boyfriend was not anywhere to be found she call me to ask what should she do?
I had her turn the bed off at the breaker and wait for her to exit, she came out and was told that that was not allowed and he would have to leave! Her comments where "What the F$%^" thats F$%^&* up. She asked if she could finish her tan if he left ? Which we told her yes but she instead stood there with her boyfriend outside yelling at our employees! This is a small town of about 17000 people and I dont want her bad mouthing us to her friends, should I call her Mom & Dad and let them know what went on or should I just keep an eye on her in the future? |

It's always cheaper to rent a tanning room than a hotel room. Who know's what they are doing in there! Maybe they can't be alone at either of thier homes.
I wouldn't call the parents, I would just ban the boyfriend from the salon unless he is going to pay to tan. No one gets past the lobby unless they pay to tan. |

I would inform the girl that her boyfriend can't be in the room due to it being a fire hazard. In our province that is the law. If she can't comply to the rules then I would simply tell her she is no longer welcome.

No don't call parents unless she continues to sneak him in.
Federal Law states Only 1 person in room at a time. It's the law dearie and we can't break it. either you abide or go somewhere else.

Don't almost all of the health regs, SmartTan etc say only one person per room? UV exposure to unprotected eyes, and all that stuff? That's the easy way to explain it ...

By law it's only 1 person in the room while the bed is in operation.
Insurance states the exact same. You tell them that it's the law as well as insurance liability and that you are not going to pay $5,000 fine and jeopardize your business to let her boyfriend sit in the room while she tans cuz she wants company. That's that. If it's explained properly and you blame the government and tell them it's out of your hands and you jeopardizing your business is not worth anything...they won't have a problem with it. They'll usually apologize and say they didn't know. If they say, the salon down the street does it. Then say...I don't care what others do with their business, but i didn't invest $300,000 to lose it cuz someone wants their boyfriend to hold their hand and talk to them while they tan. Not worth the $10 to me. And it's only a matter of time that the place down the street gets shut down for that and you'll lose your tans there cuz of their stupidity. We run a business and that's that.

As a mother...I'd want to tell the parents. But judging by the mouth she had on her, the parents are probably idiots and will cause you even more trouble.
As an owner...just stick to the 1 person per room rule. It's pretty black and white. |

1 person per room rule here also.
We have had ppl want to take their babbies and toddlers in the room with them. Just not a good ideal at all. |

Had the same wonderful experience this summer - funny thing is: they were 27 years old. She went to tan, he supposedly went to the restroom down the same hallway. Noticed he wasn't in the restroom and went and knocked on the door, he came out and started screaming and yelling at my husband and said he was only helping her get her lotion on (don't want to know what else)... was told to leave the salon. He went outside and paced around on the sidewalk angry as all get out. As soon as she came out after getting dressed, I re-explained what the policy was and if she did not like it, she didn't have to tan here.
Craziest thing was... she brought her Dad back up later in the day and wanted her money back for her package - Dad was there to make sure she got it. Not a problem, deducted the amount for walk in tans that she had used on her package and then I told her that I was sorry that she couldn't understand our policy of no more than one person in the room and that we sell accessories to help her get her lotion on. Daddy wasn't happy! Apparently didn't hear that part of the story!! ![]() |

I had this happen with a husband and wife...she went into room to tan and I thought he was in restroom. When I realized he was in the room with her I knocked on the door and told him he couldn't be in there, state law regulations. He said he was just putting lotion on her back and he got out right away, he didn't have a problem with it.
I did have a daughter and a mother who went in together. Same situation, daughter went in and I couldn't find the mother. I heard them talking in the room so I knocked on the door and told mom she couldn't be in there. They had a problem with it...couldn't understand, mom was just keeping daughter company! And I'm not talking about a teenager, the daughter was almost 30. |

Setup a room in the back with a bed and tell them, sign this paper and you can use that room. Then charge them $40.
Paper is a disclosure form, stating that you will broadcast them live on the internet and they agree to your terms. Then charge $18.88 a month, EFT for people to become memberships of this online site. Bet you that you'll make more money with that site than you will with the salon. ![]()

We have it posted 1 person per room. i thought it was common sense
Only had a problem once the whole rubbing lotion on my back thing. I just turned the bed off at the desk and waited on them to come out and say the bed stopped working. I then re-explained the rules to them. Bottom line is you will make someone mad anytime you have to enforce a rule. When we opened I never dreamed that our rules page would grow like it has.Weeded out most of the trouble makers. |
