Our local chamber usually does a chirstmas in the city event.
The chamber does the christmas parade
some theme ideals
1. Candy Canes and Christmas Carols
2. A Toyland Christmas
3. A Story Book Christmas
4. Christmas Around the World
5. Picture Perfect Christmas

Some of the local churchs are going to do a walk through bethlehem.
I did a google search posted a couple of sites that will explain it.

Its not tanning related but I used to love the waiter/waitress slalom we used to do at winter carnival at Okemo ski area Ludlow Vermont..
Participating restaurants and bars put together teams.

These teams meet at a bar where there is a slalom/obstacle course set up inside.
Servers must wear ski boots and run thru a course of all different things. One being, pick up a tray and carry tray with 2 beers and 2 glasses of wine which is drank in sequence during the race at different tables and cannot be spilled. spillage gets time deducted based on how much,1/4, 1/2 , 3/4 or full spill..
server must go to first table. One table must be set up with 4 table settings and salt and pepper shakers, napkins all set up properly while holding onto drink tray.. next table, 20 feet away has skateboard that must be ridden to get to next table, all wearing ski boots. Clean off table and go to next stop, running thru tires. Drink beer, on to next table where there is more to do. Drink other beer, keep going, drink wine, keep going, drink last wine, get over finish line without spilling or knocking over any glasses or tables.
First to finish with fastest score wins!
Messy and slippery but...
Its a lot of fun if set up properly.

We have a parade through downtown the day Santa arrives.

The businesses buy an ad for the advertisement. The patrons have to go to each business featured and get their copy of the ad stamped by each business. The patrons turn in their fully stamped sheet for an entry into drawings held downtown after the parade.

Most prize items are donated by those local businesses and there is usually a cash prize offered as well.

When the patrons participating in the events started to dwindle, I quit participating. The ad cost started at $25 and quickly escalated to $100. I'm not sure what it is for this year. The whole ad piece was about the size of a restaurant place mat. So you can imagine the size of the ad each business received.
