Taking a poll of everyones Source of music in the salon....Radio, CD's, satellite, Internet.
I have been doing somthing for the past 4 years now, that is just perfect in every way. It's not hard to do, it will take a little investment, but there is a return in many ways. I come from a TV/radio background. |

We have 3, 5-disk CD players in the back room in which we put a variety of CD's. These are then wired to the individual rooms where we have a tuner and a little box (radio shack) where they can choose which "station" they listen to. Then we have a set of headphones from that to the head of the tanning bed.
I just change out the CD's from time to time to keep things fresh.

Well Gary, tell us!
We have a setup similar to Kathe. We have speakers in the wall in each room. A 4 channel control switch in each room. We have 4 music sources (cd players, radios, MP3) and an amp for each source that supplies each room. We don't use headphones due to sanitation and they often dissappeared. The amps have a master volume control. So you can prevent someone from blasting the volume. Not too expensive per room. but if you have alot of room... |

We have SiriusXM and everyone loves it. It is nice that there are no commercials on the music channels, and we can switch it up as we feel like it in terms of they genre or the decade of music we feel like that day.

I have been fooling around with the concept for years to package somthing for salons to use. A complete system, but i will share what I do now.
Your own in-house radio station.... your music your commericals [even sell commercials to local business] your cool id's automated dj PSA's -- "vitamin d health" News reports-- "positive sun messages" A full sound of a real radio staion! It will sound just as slick as your local #1 station in the area. What you will need... -A computer..or use your office computer.[ can be an older one ] -A program -A connection [one wire- mini plug to RCA] from this computer to your amp that feeds all the rooms -All of the recorded items for your salon Radio Station [this is where I come in] I will post a link to some examples of my recorded stuff ASAP Anyone like the idea? |

I use an IPOD connected to our central radio system that plays in each room. We just download new songs each month, and it shuffles all the songs each day..no commercials. and people love our selections.

ok...i put together some samples.
Remember....once everything is all put together it will sound like a real radio station.....no pause between cuts and id's....all very slick! Let the client hear what you want them to here.....no other commericals for other salons....push your lotions, specials deals, ect We have a captive audience...the client love it. they think its a real radio station. I will try to put up a recorded version of the "live" program that runs in the salon all day long! salon radio concept |

Just like the subscription services available. I've consider doing those or satelite radio. But I won't do a monthly subscription. Now if you can buy the "commercials" for a one time , reasonable, price, I would consider that.

Beach Bum- thats exactly what Im thinking about....I give you all of the info....you set it all up....and "buy" the production from me. You run the whole slow. It's easy to do [short learning curve]
Are u the Beach Bum from NY? If there is a salon chain or franc. with 15 or more stores, I have a great concept for you. |

itunes party shuffle. I add new songs all the time. Runs on a receiver to all the beds. Each bed has an MP3 jack if they want something else.
I could input commercials if I wanted to. Good idea!

Here is a link to a demo online. This is what it will sound like all together. The sound will def be improved running on your computer. Im getting all of the links to the program.
It's a little project to get together, but once setup, you cant kill and a big image booster for your salon. YouTube - salonradiodemo |

I'm surprised that so many of you that are so pro-regulation-abiding are actually playing radio/mp3's/CD's in your store, knowing that is against the RIAA rules.
A friend of mine just got hit with a huge fine for playing MP3's in his coffee cafe. Someone from RIAA came in to buy coffee and squealed on him. What a jerk#ff. |

One time fee to record the commercial. The way things are now-a-days, you can hire a voice actor for a 15sec commercial probably for $50. voice123.com is a site that I have used before. Voice actors actually bid on your job and send you samples of their work. But, I'd be willing to see what Gary could offer as long as no monthly subscription fees are involved. |
