This is a 1999 Prosun 48/102. Can somebody help me and tell me what type of lamps are used in this bed, how does it tan and any other helpful tips. Here is what I'm told are the current lamps in it. Not sure if those top canopy lamps are 160's? ALso, what recomendations might you offer on the best lamps for this unit.
Canopy......54-Cosmolux 10036/25 Watt & 28-Signature Series FR591 VH Bench........20-Cosmolux VLR 18810\100 Watt or 20-Signature Series FR71 I recognize this is an older unit but somtimes you find dinasaurs that can be work horses and provide a decent tan. Thanks |

Very expensive lamp change with all those Spaghetti lamps in there.
Basic VHR™ 140W top & VLR 100W bench There are many compatible options. All depends on what results you are looking for & how it will fit in with your existing equipment. |

John, Can u give me some education on spaghetti lamps. None of my current beds have them. First, you mentioned costtly, estimate on what 1 lamp should cost? Do they tan better? 25 watt seems like they are not as strong?
I'm picking up a half dozen used beds from a closing salon. I would add this into the mix if it is worth it or store it for a rainy day. thanks for your advice |

Correct, the Spaghetti lamps are 25 watts total, so usually about 5-8 watts are UV. (Rest is wasted as heat, visible light) They usually only last about 450-600 hrs max depending on brands. They range from $8-$11 for non reflector & $9-$14 for reflector version.
Normally you would have them between the longer lamps to give an added kick of output, but to have the whole facial area covered seems like a waste. Just think changing 54 extra lamps, 54 extra starters, 54 more ballast to go bad, 108 more sockets to burn up.....sounds like fun. They would have been better off putting 3- 400W high pressure lamps in there. Would get better output over the face, run a bit more efficiently & save lots of cost in lamp replacements. |

good points john. Now I have to justify if it's worth being Free. This was a bonus bed, I was just after thier other equipment and in a position to take it on the truck with me or leaving it for scrap? I wish I had a view of a current owner of one of these to see how it stacks up as far as customer satisfaction.

I have one of these beds have had it since 1995. Bed tans geat although I'd never put a new tanner in it. I promote the 102 as a pre vacation bed, not giving the immediate tan as my 650's but will better prepare their skin for the natural sun. The 102 can burn people very easily, I'll usually start a client who's been using a 650 with only 8 minutes, working up each session. Bed is a workhorse, have had no major problems with the bed having to replace a main fan once. Don't think you'll be dissappointed with the bed just for the price of a bulb change, but if you decide you don't want it .........

I have 2 of those in the 48/8 configuration. double 400's per cassette hp lamps on the face.]
Very good bed. As to burning people...the lamps you use are the factor here. I use Supra VHR lamps and get about 65 mw2's brand new on top and 38mw2s on the 100w R lamps in the bench. This with a 10 min TE time. (at only 225 volts btw) BUT...with VLR style bench lamps and 9k90 style top lamps..it would be drop the TE by about 30 percent and be a very mellow bed for most skin types. More the original concept of VHR tanning. The spaghetti option is stupid. It was simply to get the number 102 which was long dicking the competition. As to the person who said 25 watts seems weak.....it is all in the lamp size..not wattage. A 25 watt night light would be BLAZING and a 25 watt spot light would be weak. The bigger the tube, or the longer the tube, the higher wattage it needs to put out an equal amount of output. Hence, a 140 watt 5' lamp is virtually identical to a 160 watt 6' lamp which is virtually identical to a 200 watt 2 meter lamp. The Leg Tanner has 3' lamps driven at 70 watts which is very similar to a 6' "bed" lamp driven at 140 watts. It is just half the size.
