I have had this girl come in since August and she has tried every level of tanning and even our Airbrush. Last night I added her as a friend to our salon's facebook page and come to find out she works at the salon a few blocks down. I am acctually flattered by this because they have big Ergoline beds and a very expensive looking facility and we have older but well maintained beds. So should I confront her and ask her what's up or should I just let the neighbor keep giving us buisness. Thanks for the input.

Or she no longer works there and has not updated the info? If she is spending $ who cares unless you have something to hide!

Consider it a compliment and use with other clients if they compare you... the fact that the staff at other salons pay to tan at your salon is the best endorsement you can have. Make sure that you always give this "client" the best service possible so in the event they DO still work at the other salon she will never have anything bad to report back to them...

This is possibly the best endorsement you could have when an employee at the competition pays to tan at your salon... Always treat them great and give them the best service possible. They will never be able to say anything negative about your salon to anybody then...

Hmm, I'd be careful if I was you...I know of some salon owners who have bought memberships with their competitors so they can scope them out. I even train my employees to not give out pricing over the phone, but instead give the person on the phone a "bait offer" to get them in the door so if they really are a competitor then they will have to work for it and actually come in to get the whole spill. I know I have tanned at alot of my competitors but mostly so I can get on their email list and be up to date with their specials and promotions!

one thing comes to mind here...as we have other employees tanning with us too...is...that where they work, they have to pay as well for their tans...so with that said...if they have to pay...they will go to the best place and pay!!
sometimes they are not allowed to tan during "open" hours...so its also more convenient for them to tan elsewhere that they can tan whenever. food for thought here, for owners whom charge their employees to tan...or limit them. we allow tanning in all units free...but upgrades we only have one of...only before and after hours. we only have one ergo 650 and one sunboard plus HP, but multiples of all others including omega HP's..orbits...and less...so they have plenty to tan in...but will stay after to do the 650 or sunboard... |

I have one of my competitors employee tanning with us.
I asked why and she said their lamps suck and she never feels like she is getting tan and they are dimly lit, dark rooms. When she comes here, she gets really great color and loves how bright and cheerful we are and we have a great selection of lotion. She even buys lotion from us at full retail. (guess her boss doesn't give her a break.) And she likes MRI ![]() My biggest concern is she doesn't use her great tan to her advantage to get people to tan where she works. But I'll take her money any day! |

When I first opened I offered a free week of tanning. The competition came out of the walls. Two girls come to mind. They came in and trashed two machines. Lotion everywhere, hit the emergency off switch, turned a few bulbs(reflector pointed out) and scratch the floor in one of the booths with what I think was a key! Sometimes competition a bitch!!!!
