Default Copper and tanning

Can anyone help me with an answer to a customers question please? Will a topical application of copper increase melanin in the skin or enhance the colour of a tan?

Will:

Certain copper enzymes (in conjunction with the amino acid tyrosine) are required for melanogenesis but a "topical application" of the "metal" copper isn't going to do anything.

However, applying iron and allowing it to rust might help-LOL.
