Long IslandTanning salons to warn of cancer risks

Tanning salons will have to include on their coupons, fliers and other advertisements a warning about skin cancer and other health risks associated with tanning, under a bill approved by the Suffolk Legislature.

The measure, authored by Deputy Presiding Officer Vivian Viloria-Fisher (D-Setauket), also places greater restrictions on children using tanning beds and other similar devices.

Those under 14 now will be prohibited from going to tanning parlors and people age 14 through 18 will have to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

The legislature unanimously adopted a less restrictive bill last year. The new measure, approved unanimously Tuesday, will be signed into law by County Executive Steve Levy, according to his spokesman.

Viloria-Fisher added, "We will protect children when they are most susceptible to the harmful effects of tanning, and hopefully save lives over the long term."

No one from Long Island posting over here or what?

No, one cares about this?

This is bad, bad, bad for the tanning industry.

Was their anyone representing the tanning industry lobbying against this bill being approved? If so--Who?
