Hair sample could indicate risk of getting skin cancer
May 8, 2007 - A simple strand of hair may determine your risk for getting skin cancer. That's according to a new report in the American Journal of Epidemiology. During a recent study, scientists measured a hair sample for the amount of melanin. That's a natural substance that gives color to hair and eyes and protects the skin from damaging sun rays. Researchers found that determining the amount of melanin as a patient's skin type could also be used to advise how often they should be screened for skin cancer. Source |
