Talking Re: Changing bulbs

If I were you I would replace the entire Canopy or Bed with new. Keep the bulbs that are good and use them as spares for the other beds. (but make sure you have a bad bulb and not a position that is causing the bulb to go bad).

I am curious about something here. I have a solarmeter and I am unsure of how to read this. I checked my new lamps in one of my bed and they are at 16 and then checked my stand up and its at 11. So now 16 would have to be good, and 11 mustn't be too bad then either. So when it gets to be 3 does this mean it needs changing or if it goes higher. Any suggestions or comments would be great.

:-)
Thanks

I have to change one of my bulbs too....it burnt out. Now my lotions aren't being displayed brightly.

Isn't that what we are talking about?

I have to meter my bulbs on my lotion display.

Daredvl...the lower the number, the better. It's like Golf. If you can get your bulbs metering 1, then you win.

What? 16 and 11 (on a 5.0 meter) are not very good.

Even el-cheapo 100W lamps should be over 17-18+ new.

Nowadays most 100W would be 20+ (new-era more). I suppose some high B creatures might be down near 15 - because they sacrifice UVA to get more UVB. The 5.0 reading is mostly UVA.

my new radiance lamps gave me 16 and i just changed the bed. I am guessing that i never waited long enough for the results, as if 16 is shit, then i will try again and I will wait a bit longer. So then it sounds like the higher the number the better the lamps? Is this the case then?

I should clarify too that this is 100W and the UVB is 4.6% on this particular bed, but the lamps are brand new.

takes 30-50 hours for the lamps to reach their maximum potential. Check them when they hit 40 hours and they should read better

What kind of bed? How many lamps?

Yes - the readings will reach maximum when lamps "break in"... which only takes about 20 hours or less for 100W mercury balls to stop swirling.

Is your 16 for a single lamp... holding meter right against acrylic? If so - maybe that's more "normal". What is the reading at center of bed with meter on bottom acrylic pointing up at closed canopy?

That should be higher because many more lamps are contributing to the reading. That is how most people keep track of their lamps aging from new to down ~30% from new. It also shows how much UV is falling on "body position" - sort of.

My Sundash 424's with 1500 hours using Light Source lamps meter at 18 using a 5.0.

If your only getting 16 new, I would seriously look at changing the type of lamps you are buying. That will put you out of business fast. Non-performing new lamps. Might as well have thrown $800 in the fireplace.

i tried the new lamps again, after i let the bed run for a few minutes and the reading is at 19.7 which is much better. So now my next question is, what should the number be at for changing the lamps. If you are changing at 70% does that mean when the meter reads 70 they should be changed.

No, If your meter reads 20, the 70% of that would be 14. Thats when you would change your lamps. When they are at only 70% strenght of new, that is when you change.

how are you using your meter?

Are you putting it where the body would recieve the light?

No matter how you do it, always do it the same. That way you have more acurate info.
