Default Magic Suns vs 9K90s

So the 9K90s are suppose to be the high falootin lamp with more UVA output.

I was told by someone who sells both, that the Magic Suns will give more and the colour will be better. The only downfall is the life of the Magic Suns are shorter. I have Magic Suns already in one bed and was going to replace my Cosmolux VHRs with the 9K90s.

Anyone have experience with both or meter comparisons?

Annnnnnd, if I put 200W lamps in my 180W bed, how much will that shorten the life? (I couldn't find that other thread with all the wattage/ballast/lamp life info.)

If your bed only has a 180W ballast & you put a lamp in that is labeled 200W, it won't make any difference what so ever.

Which Magic Sun lamps do you have?

Some people prefer the Cosmolux VHR 180s over the 20/160s...because they're less intense. So I'm just trying to figure out what to replamp the 180s with. And the stand up which also has Cosmolux 160s.

What unit are the 180's in?

The Magic Sun 20/160R will give more immediate color. The 9K90 lamp is much lower UVB & very high UVA. You won't see your peak color from the 9K90 lamp until much later, 4-6 hrs after tanning.
You will need to edjucate the clients on this.

Also I prefer the 9k90 lamps in 15 minute sessions. For 10 -12 minutes try the Sig Series HP, Philips Swift HP or the Wolff Bronzing Sun Plus HPK90 VSR. They all have a kick more UVB than the 9K90, same UVA, but still not as much UVB as the 20/160R.

Good morning over there All-Star Beat.

The pdf says Eery total is 70.6 mW/mē which = 0.07 W/mē Eeff. What does it read on a Model 7.5 W/mē Eeff meter?

(Single lamp at 25cm with 1 hour pre-aging).

We have tried many lamps over the years and meterd results on a lot with our Tanses T52vhr and Magic Sun far outperforms all others in color and longevity.

Longevity in the lamps or their colour? The're only 600hrs and the 9K90s are 800 or 1000.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you'll get nowhere near those hours.

Beat,

Correct the 4/160R is very close to the 9K90 lamps. has a touch more UVB but won't notice much. They work great in most Combi beds.

John...if you were to pick for my 180W (8 minute max), what would it be...Magic Suns, Voltarc PWR or 9K90s?

Hey Beat I have a question.

I just came back from italy why does mostly everyone use spf to tan indoors? All I seen was mostly everyone selling spf 6. Then jumping in to either facial tanners or hp. I thought spf would stop alot of the effects of the tanning process?
