Run all AUVL in my place, never had a problem. Their new facial lamps are made by Phillips, not bad at all.

True but coming from a sales guy at Future is more ironic.

Exactly what I was thinking - and with boys for a change! Yowzer, get the popcorn Tony G!

Imhere - it is really going to depend on your units, which specific lamps, etc. To say all of ANY brand of lamp are "crap" - or "great", or "overpriced" or anything else is pretty much impossible. Different lamps are better in different applications - the important part is making the best choice for yours!

No knocking AUVL lamps at all. Good lamps but when it comes to PL LightSource you have a lot of choices. Shop around is good advice for anyone looking to buy lamps.

I guess the Future sales clowns don't like people shopping around?

Dr Muller aka Advanced UV Light Germany is gone.....out of business. Ultrasun bought the bed designs and the Dr Muller name. Will they produce them as we know them? Word on the street is no but time will tell.

All LSI Lamps are not created equal. They have many different phosphor blends they make for certain companies. Some are premium while others are more economy. The actual LSI brand of Aurora Series & Signature Series are both top of the line.

AUVL has gone through many lamp makers in the past, from Voltarc, Philips, Cosmedico, and LSI. Hard to tell what you'll get.

i feel lamps are so important but hard to figure out.

as most do, i need lamps that deliver quality tans for a decent amount of hours at a decent price point. of course, my definition of decent may be different than someone else's definition.

i am not rich and cannot waste time. i don't have time or money to spend on testing several different lamps just to find out if they meet my specs. doing this would require me to take money out of my pocket to try out lamps for several hours before i would even know if they are worth it or not.

and what if they are not. i just lost time, money and clients.

what is really the best way to determine what lamps are right for a particular unit? sales guys are bais and there are so many variables to consider (how long they tan people until they are useless, if they will tan people, unit they are used in, starters used, maintenance of bed, temperature of salon, uva%, uvb%, what kind of color will they deliver, blah, blah, blah).

is there a really good lamp guide that explains the technology? then maybe i can look at published specs and make my own determination?

urgh! i need to rest.

The post above yours was written by "John" who is John Hayes at URI (Ultraviolet Resources - Ultraviolet Resources International - UV Tanning , Lotions, Lamps, Equipment, and More).

If you value your time, want a good recommendation, want a good price, don't want to be jerked around - call him.

He has been on the boards helping (for free) for years. I have never, ever heard a bad word said about him by anyone. And I have personally used him for my salon since I opened and sent LOTS of customers his way. 100% satisfaction, every time.

Not saying there aren't other good ones - there are. But no matter HOW much time and energy you invest in trying to "figure it out yourself", you are never going to know as much as John (or other really good lamp guys). So do yourself a favor, call him, tell him your equipment, current lamps, your goals, budget - and take his advice.

I tried AUVL lamps several years ago because they had a great sale on them. It was a sale alright. I think they sent me the cheapest lamp they had. After going round and round with them I finally took them out and replaced them. They did make an attempt to correct the problem but never did completely. All this left a bitter taste in my mouth and I don`t think I will ever buy AUVL lamps again.

If you are re-lamping one of your high end beds don`t buy a second grade lamp just to save money. I have done that and it ended up costing me more in the long run.

AUVL has had lamps made by many many different companies over the years..whoever made them cheapest is who they bought from. Some were good, some were horrible.

Phillips lamps are fine for 400 watt facials and ok in Ergos using the 400/500 plug ins.

But Phillips Quartz HP lamps SUCK..and I mean suck big donkey tans when it comes to the higher wattage lamps. Low output...short life. They have never figured this out.
