Default Spray gun problem

I just started using Cal Tan's MobileBronzer unit. When I spray a client I find that the solution is coming out of the cup a little and also is spitting out from the clear tube that goes from cup to gun. Anyone know if this is usual or is there something I can do to fix the problem.
It's dripping on my floor and I don't think it looks very professional from the clients point of view.

Dude I also have a Caltan spray gun, got it late last year. It dripped at a slow rate from the start... dont sit on it cause it gets worse. Thats what happened to me, still waiting for them to check it out and tell me what the issue is. I bought a new bottle from another supplier which limited the dripping... but its obviously a pressure problem with this gun.

I ditched Caltan soloution after the first bottle, dont know how you guys like yous tans in the states but in Oz its natural or nothing. I found that apart from the dripping Cal tans guns are a good peice of equipment so I was able to test a heap of other products. You need to ring every single supplier you can and get a hold of sample soloutions.. test them all until you find what your looking for. We settled on St Tropez, its a little more expensive but its almost flawless and quick drying, the thing about spray tans is if people get a shit one they wont be coming back for any services you offer, however if they get a good one they'll tell all their friends about you.

Good Luck with it, get your gun fixed first before you start trying other soloutions cause otherwise your supplier will try and tell you that you dont get warranty on it now cause you tried other products in it and that voids warranty.... BS!!

I have the same thing happening with the solution dripping out from around the cup on the gun. I spoke to Carl with Cal Tan Sunless and he advised there was some cups that were made "bad" and didn't have a good fit. He said they would need to be replaced with the correct cup.

I do mate but only in Oz... you might want to google it, I know it aint big in the US but you would have to be able to get it cause it was endorsed By Jennifer Anniston during 2006. I swear by it, we never have a bad spray tan.

I have the CalTan mobile bronzer and found out from CalTan (after how may spray tans?) that apparently only CalTan solution is supposed to be used in it. So, the tech at CalTan tells me that if I use the Norvell product (which is a lot darker, less sticky and smells decent), that I should completely take apart the gun and run water thru it when I switch from the Norvell back to CalTan because it is a lot thicker than CalTan solution. So now, I have been using the Cal Tan solution for about 1/2 of my sprays and then back to Norvell and now my gun is not working. All it is doing is blowing air when I use the Norvell and it is barely pulling the CalTan solution through when I use it. I am so frustrated with this gun. I have done about 300 spray tans since February and am ready to pull my hair out. Anyone know where I can get a really decent HPLV system that is portable? (I even bought the CalTan mobile suitcase) for around $1,000?

Here is the problem, you need to break the gun down and clean it out. There is nothing special about the spray guns. I can spray paint though them (which is the original application). You just need to keep them clean. The aluminum angle joint in the center of the gun collects the dried solution and gets gummed up if you neglect it.

Running water through it is just not enough. You need to fully disassemble it, clean it out and then put it back together. Why do you think it is supplied with brushes and a wrench for the gun? You need to break it down on a regular basis. This is not a fault of the gun. All spray guns are like this. They require constant maintenance.

A lot of companies try telling you you can only use their solution in their unit. My advice would be to stay away from them. Plenty of equipment out there. A red flag should go up if they try that sales pitch of only their solution. You want to be able to use whatever solution you prefer.

It's a spray gun. You can spray anything through it. Just keep it clean. Make sure the check valve on the clear tube on the outside is clean too. This allows air to re-enter the solution cup. If that is clogged then the solution cannot be syphoned out of the cup.

Break your gun down and clean it. Know your weapon soldier.

Do a search on "best spray solution" and you will see a thread listing some good recommendations.

Orange is not a tan.

Call David Buell and purchase some solution from him. Also, do a search on David Buell for a quicker link to the spray solution.

Caltan didn't manufacture the spray gun .......it was meant for paint. Spray guns were around long before spray tan was invented. So for them to tell you...you can only spray this or mine or whatever......LIES. The parts to make the gun or a spray booth are not manufactured by caltan, nor are they even meant or intended for self tanning solution. Just that someone came up with the idea and took these parts and made us a new industry.

Let's think common sense here people. Stop listening to all these lies.

Next time someone says, only our solution can be sprayed through that gun, ask them if they manufactured the gun themselves specifically tested on their solution only and if their solution has ingredients that make it so special and if they think you're an idiot and will believe what they say.
