Din, I found this post by a salon owner (quiettime) posting about getting runs and streaks, orange feet, dots and such with a ITS ultramist booth.

Spray Booth Solution - which is the best?

Versa Spa and Mystic are still hand-down the most commonly purchased. Versa Spa has gained a VERY loyal following from salon owners and they say it is the $$ making them happy with it.

I've had the original blue box Mystic for 4+ years and not an issue ever. I'd buy another.

I'd be VERY hesitant to try a new entry to the sunless market unless you tried it in person AND talked to SEVERAL owners who had them. The landscape is LITTERED with sunless manufacturers and booths that had big promises, even backed by big names - and never delivered. I haven't heard a thing about the ITS booths on the boards (other than by ITS - that I recall), haven't seen any come across my desk and don't know of anyone with them. Doesn't mean they might not be fine -- but do a lot of investigation first. I'd love to hear if there are members here that have them (not just folks who suddenly come out of the woodwork for this thread! ). They are still at the same 20K+ price point as new Mystics and Versa Spas and you don't want to make an expensive mistake (heck - don't want to make an INEXPENSIVE) mistake.

If cost is an issue, consider custom spraying rather than a booth. Have seen a HUGE increase in popularity of those, and very minimal equipment cost to get started. More labor intensive, but tend to hold better margins too.

SunSally is right about the custom spraying. A lot less of an investment, and a bigger profit margin as well. You can charge more because its custom! I converted my room and bought the equipment all for less than $1000 and have easily made that back within a few months. Glowtanning did the same and I'm sur eother people have but I know for a fact she did.

As far as booths I don't know anything about them except I get a customers every once in awhile that used my competitors booth and didn't like how it came out and now get sprayed by me

Versaspa can do a single treatment spray session in 46 seconds including a blow dry (no need to towel off), and you can apply up to 3 treatments in a multi session. We get $35 for a multi-session session with 3 treatments (prep spray, sunless spray, anti-aging spray) and it only costs about $4.50 in product for all 3 applications, not a bad profit margin.

You lose a big segment of the public when you do hand applied, many clients prefer not to get naked in front of a stranger, or even a friend for that matter. Hell many clients who tan would not be caught dead in a swimsuit strange but true.

If you want to make appointments and be there to spray, hand application is fine. Me I like to play golf and let the booth do the work. I gave up working for minimum wage at the salon long ago. Whats the point of owning your own business if you have to work? (huge huge grin)

Here is a link to another thread about ITS, FYI.

We have 5 MyMyst. No need to towel off because by the time the solution hits you body it has already been absorbed. With the MYMyst there is no room for error. BUT some of our customers do like the personal touch. I suggest doing both to give your customers the option. After all isn`t that what it is all about. CHOICE.
