How long does it take you to do a spray tan using a HVLP gun. When we bought ours, we were told you could do a spray tan in approximately 5 minutes. At this speed, how do you get all the tiny areas, like back of neck, etc? Our fastest spray takes about 20 minutes - thats one coat vertically and one coat horizonitally. Also, it seems that some of you are working the desk by yourself and still doing airbrush tans too. How do you do that and wait on your tanning bed customers at the same time?

Working the desk and doing spray tans by yourself is a challenge, but I do it everyday with every service. The importance in a spray tan is to remember where you left off. When I hear the door alarm, I actually announce that I will be right with them, so that they are not being ignored, and then come to a stopping point with the spray client. So far, everyone has been very understanding, but I'm the one that feels guilty.

hmmm... 20 mins is a long time. is that total time (prep, spray and cleanup)?
our techs work the desk and do sprays all alone. takes us 5 mins to spray someone. there are times we are in the room for up to 10 mins. most clients waiting don't wait long at all. gives them a chance to decompress, get ready to relax, read our strategically placed education materials, look at products, view service menu, etc. in my opinion, a short client wait (no more than 5 mins) is a good thing for the salon. |

Agreed HVLP takes 5 or less min., but airbrush takes alot longer. Watch the training video from cal tan, I think you can still order it. It may help you speed things up, total prep, spray, dry time 15-20 min., we give customers a hair dryer to speed up the dry time. On Turs we do 5-7 sprays bang bang, bang, if we took that long to spray we be backed up all night.

I use HVLP gun. I have been airbrushing for 4 years now and have sprayed more than 5,000 people. I still do not understand how you are spraying people in 5 minutes without leaving areas such as behind neck, under arms, etc. sprayed evenly. I have watched and tried the Cal Tan video and while it looks good in theory, once the person has showered off the bronzer, they are bound to have white areas that the spray did not hit. Is everyone doing just one coat? Is there anyone out there that would be willing to video their application and send it to me? We are told by lots of people who have been airbrushed elsewhere that we take more time with our detailed spraying, but it would sure be nice to be able to spray more than 15 - 18 people a day.

Hey if your getting 15-18 PPD then god bless, maybe We all should slow down and do a better job.
I can evenly coat a person twice in 5 or so min., you might have your gun to tight, I back off the adjuster a little over half a turn from loose tight (not wrenched down). I could paint an entire car one coat in 15 min. |

agree with mgj, seems like your machine settings are too tight. looser means more coverage in a shorter period of time. also how far away are you from client? don't go too far, spray could be wasted on everything else but your client. wasteful on solution and takes more time to spray.
