Exclamation Funky Manager Error

So I come in one day last week and my manager was all blank with one 0 inthe 5 display. I removed power and plugged it back in-no problems. Figured we had a powerspike overnight, no worries.

Same thing happened today-same response from me. Looked like it reset no problem. First tanner (happened to be in my stand-up/room 2) goes in and the screen goes crazy and the thing starts chirping erratically at me after the first 4 minutes of the 12min session. As if the beeps are going off so quickly it sounds like morse code. Again, I unplug the power and it goes nutso again-tons of numbers scroll past, so out with the power again. Seems to be fine for 15 min and then it goes to all blank but display 5 is a 0.

Anyone had this happen and what should I do now?

Oh, as I'm writing this that 0 in the 5 display turned to an 8. And an "H" keeps popping up next to the #2 display intermittenly.

I'm using helios, but I dont' think that's the issue.

Check the connections. Unplug the phone cords a couple of times to scrape them and restore the connections at each timer and at the manager. If you can get an RJ-22 phone end crimper re-crimp all of the phone ends. (not replace) Just plug the existing plug in the crimper and give it an extra squeeze.

Also, replace the power supply to the manager and also plug it into a surge suppressor.

Check the connections between the computer and the manager.

See what happens. This will rule out connections. If the problem continues, replace the manager.

Brian, would the absence of an "end-of-terminal" (I think thats what it is called) plug cause this? Also, I have heard that in rare cases the Manager case itself must be grouded via one of the case screws to the common ground on a wall outlet or similar.

You would know better then me 4 sure!

I pitch the terminator as it causes many falsing problems. It is not needed.

If it is a metal case manager, gounding the case will help eliminate falsing from static shock.

Also, if you have neon signs, do not share the same outlet with the manager.

I left it unplugged all night and reconnected the power adapter today. Seemed to be fine then here it goes flipping out again. Screetching and flipping through numbers faster than I can see them. It's all intermittent again today. Voltmeter reads 9v, so not the powercord.

I can hear, very quietly at sometimes, and loudly at other times that alarm chirping.

The manager is sitting on a cabinet with a plastic top leaned against a wall if that makes a difference.

you can experience intermittent problems forever...or you can spend $5.00 and get a new power cord to see if that's the problem. They are universal.

Replacing power cable eliminated our intermittent problems with our manager.

It's worth a shot.

Actually, our adapter reads 9v DC and we get 13v DC. Is that ok?

13 volts is too high. Replace it. It is overheating the internal regulator.

If your power's ok after the transformer swap, you should probably send it in to ADI. They might need to swap out a chip or two.

Also, there's always an opto-isolator too. But it sounds like you're either recycling power or have controller problems. Or, when it's acting up, do any displays say E6, or E7?

I tried another manager and everything seems to be fine. We also reloaded the software. I'll call ADI and get an RMA to have this one sent back for them to look at it.

Thanks so much for your help!

Make sure the grapple gromit didn't come lose from the froofroo valve on the muffler-bearing.

Actually fraffle and froofroo didn't seem to be the problem. I'm thinking it's the actual muffler-bearing.

So the manager is 2 months old and Kevin says that there is a flat $75 (per hour?) charge if it's "not covered" plus shipping both ways-what the!?!? Hopefully since I never threw hot lotion goo on it or dropped it on it's pretty lil face the problem will be "covered".

Anyone else ever have to "send off"?
