TanToday Adds 4 New Moderators

TanToday is pleased to announce the addition of four new Moderators! Each brings a wealth of industry knowledge and we hope you welcome them with open minds (and keyboards!). We have included bios on each so you can get to know them a little better.

Mitzi Keller
Screen Name: Ziti
An avid tanner since the early ’80s, Ziti became involved in the professional indoor-tanning industry as a salon owner in 1997 when she and her husband purchased a small tanning salon. She started her salon with five beds and quickly grew it to 12 units within a couple of years. The salon now offers four levels of tanning including sunless and skincare. Mitzi’s stepdaughter and partner, Pam, is an aesthetician at the salon.

Mitzi is a former TanToday moderator and her goal is to help all the “newbies” grow their businesses and avoid making the “dumb moves and mistakes” she made along the way. The TanToday community has helped her many times in the past, and she is positive it will continue helping her in the future.

Kathe Ray
Screen name: Kathe
Kathe has been a salon owner since 1994 and at one time owned three salons. She currently owns one salon that has been in operation since 1996. Kathe has a passion for the industry that began when she first started tanning in the late ’80s. She became frustrated with the salons in her town and told her fiancé she wanted to open a tanning salon—six months later, they opened their first location.

Being a part of TanToday is not only a lot of fun, but it gives Kathe a chance to do what she loves—help others, even if it is just a word of encouragement. She can get very passionate about certain subjects and has strong opinions; however, her motto is “to attack the argument, not the person.” Kathe is looking forward to being a part of the Tan Today moderator team because she believes she can add a new dimension and a calming voice.

On the personal side, she is mom to six children and a daughter-in-law. She and her family are awaiting the arrival of a new grandbaby.

Bruce Wood
Screen Name: Sparky
A salon owner since 1999, Sparky has been a TanToday member since early 2000 when he stumbled upon the site looking for retailing advice. He attributes advice and support from many seasoned veterans to his ability to get through some of his toughest times. Early on he was introduced to high-pressure tanning beds and realized there are many clients—with fair skin like his—who require more help to achieve a golden tan and not burn.

Along the way, he’s become an art director, marketing manager and advertising agent, along with the normal operating duties of mental health adviser, career counselor, dispute moderator and hundreds of other ‘hats’ that a small-business owner wears every day of operation.

He’s been known to answer his phone with many different lines including “Thanks for Calling T-Max Tech Support”, “Helios Tech Support” and even “Tanning Directory Information.”

Sparky is a returning TanToday Moderator and his goal as a moderator is to give back a little of the insight that helped him in those formative years as he grew legs in the industry. After work is done, he enjoys spending time with his 8-year-old daughter, which is the reason he started the salon in the first place: to have the time to grow together with her.

Christine Berk-Carlton
Screen Name: Christine
Christine has been involved in the skincare industry for more than 30 years and is passionate about helping others attain great results. She has been a licensed clinician in aesthetics since 1976 and continues her education each year to stay on the map with current treatments and procedures. She also is an educator for a manufacturer/distributor of skin-rejuvenation medical equipment.

Christine owns and directs her own facility in central Florida and her studio proudly has served its area as the "Home of the Professionals" for 21 years. The facility embraces ultraviolet therapy for cosmetic and medical benefits. The medically supervised facility offers a transforming experience one individual at a time.

As a past TanToday moderator, she is looking forward to getting back into the moderator game and assisting salon owners with all aspects of their businesses, including skincare. Christine will hang out primarily in the Skincare Forum and is excited about being a part of the online community again because “it has always been a place where professionals can meet and share strategies while keeping a close finger on the pulse of our growing industry.”

Welcome everyone. Glad to see some of you back. It`s been a long time. Kathe has been here for a little while and most everyone knows her, Sparky, Mitzi, and Christine are long time ago mods Christine is licensed in aesthetics and has a head full of knowledge. You can ask her just about anything when it comes to skin care and she will have an answer. MItzi or Ziti is as crazy as they come. You may often see her posting "It`s 5 O`clock somewhere. Sparky well you decide for yourself. Great guy and great friend. If you call him he will answer, tech support. ;

Let's get down to business... (and a little monkey business too... )
We have seen over the past few of years a 'change" in our industry..
We have seen some the very best industry professionals throw in the towel and walk away from the table empty handed..

Let's take a look at what we have learned from those who came before us....
so we can help those who will come after us...
Let's also add the new thinking to this board and have great place to meet and discuss our life's goals with knowledge and an open mind to learn more...

Christine' was added because when it comes to skincare, I am told she is the guru and we recognized that as an area TanToday could improve on. Obviously she has been dormant on MY TanToday and TSO for that matter for years but we know she has the "potential" and she has expressed a sincere interest in coming out of TanToday retirement and sharing her knowledge on the subjects she can really help on.

I think it's great to have some new voices in the Den. Just know that 95% of their job requirements will be focused on fostering discussion, creating topics, etc while us OLD, seasoned Mods handle the clean up and backend duties.

Well I can say this Christine did have a lot of post on Tantalk over 4K to be exact but she was a mod here after she left Tantalk. Sorry all her post are gone forever. Maybe Bruce can remember how many she had?? I don`t understand why it should matter how many she has now. She is very knowledgeable in skin care and a lot of us are adding this to our salon mix. I want to learn all about skin care. I am starving for information on that subject. Maybe because I have reached that age where I need it more than some.

I think it was very "maverick" of us to add her and all the others all at once. Every 4 years, this forum needs a shakeup or down. Or maybe both.

Gee, congrats to all. I'm just a little disappointed that I wasn't considered. O'well, I'll just have to be satisfied modding over on "Talk". I so, wanted to be a part of the forum voted No. "1"! LOL I'm not mad, but I'm going to approach Neon and see if, maybe they're looking.
