Yeah, it's really not meant for employees at salons, but for owners. And it's not necessarily the place for everyone to just come hang out ... unless you want to do that.

But it's great for networking with other salon owners, finding out what other did to solve the same problem you have, discovering new ways to grow your business, hopefully talking to more and more manufacturers about products you may want to use, and now and then sharing war stories.

Advertisers shouldn’t feel as if they should be granted immunity and neither should any manufacture. Even though Tan Today doesn’t speak for the entire salon community, they should be able to get a good sense of what the population wants from the sampling of people on here. If there is something wrong with a company or a product then it should be put out there. I know comments get out of line, and that is unacceptable. Although if your product/service is truly bad and you can’t take the heat then that’s just tough and the tanning community should be made aware of any issues.

This industry is full of great people but we have, unfortunately, a percentage of scum bags that are just trying to make a quick buck. The truth can hurt when someone says something bad about your company, but the way your handle that truth is what I really look at.

Since taking over the site, the Looking Fit team has been predominantly hands-off, which has led to a major shift in the dynamics of the community—and we apologize for that. We have realized that, in order to achieve our goal, we must be more involved with the community and that our first order of business is to change the tone of the site.

It’s our goal to put an end to unfounded gossip, arguing and blatant advertising in discussion threads, signature blocks, etc. We want to create an environment where all salon owners and industry professionals feel comfortable sharing their opinions, asking questions, and having robust debate without fear of personal attacks. Over the coming weeks, we will implement major changes on TanToday to accomplish this objective.

Please bear with us as we work to create an even better community for us all and feel free to let us know of ways you think the community could be improved!

All the best,
Mike, Stacy and Danielle

I read this site every single day without fail. And it's because of the cleverness of your userbase - not you people at LookingFit - that you have something worthwhile here.

I might be wrong but I have a feeling this "need for change" agenda was partially advanced by the criticism of that person who wanted to build websites for salons. Maybe he pulled out of the sponsorship deal, maybe he complained, or maybe I'm wrong altogether. Regardless, his sites are nightmarishly amateur and he deserved the feedback he got. The feedback was honest, and that's what makes this place a good proving ground for your sponsors who want to service tanning salon owners.

If this site isn't making you enough money because the users here scare away potential sponsors with their brutal honesty... well, the 100% wrong response from LF is to complain about the level of honesty in a round-about way and say you're going to change the tone..

Do yourselves, and this group of posters you have, a big favour and continue to leave the place alone.. like I said in the first paragraph, the users here self-police to the point where it's actually pretty impressive to me..

LF doesn't operate tanning salons and quite honestly posts from your staff are often the least useful ones on here.. Now you want to become more involved in shaping the culture here?

You would do well to reconsider.

Hello Jeff,

I promise the "cleaning up" of TanToday has nothing to do with the salon website thread. I actually found that thread to be useful. It helped the vendor better understand how to position and develop their product for the tanning industry. I am available anytime if you would like to discuss our strategy at greater length.

Allow me to qualify myself by saying that I am a tanning salon owner who has bought items from several of your vendors as a direct result of their advertising here..

I think I speak for many people when I say that we salon owners cannot even measure this board's value to us.. it's off the charts..

So I just hope this pending culture/tone change is not an over-reaction. When it comes to LF's management of TanToday, less is more.

JeffK!

Haven't seen you since sex, religion and politics and the hailstorm that rained!

Now THAT was a "culture"/tone for this board! :-)

After some analysis, I concluded that contributing my words to TanToday would be akin to contributing my money to Berman.

However this culture change desperately needed to be addressed.

I had to stop and look to see what forum I was on here. It takes me back just a few months to the "talk" forum. That takeover didn't go over very well, and this forum should be careful not to fall into the same bucket of you know what. Is Shawn somehow involved here?
