Looking at the new mod list, I do think Phattmatt has a point. I used to "hang out" on the site more (Quite a bit), and half those names are barely framiliar to me. No offense to anyone, I'm just sayin.' (I recognize them more from old thread searches) But now that it has been mentioned that hanging out is really not what the site is for, I have cut my time back.
Trying to go with the flow, but it feels more like swimming upstream. |

I hang out on the site every day I'm at the salon. It's always open on my computer. Not sure either what you mean either????

To be honest the site only needs 1 maybe 2 moderators. Moderators should be anonymous people that purely enforce the policies of the site. They should not be selling ANY products and do not even need to be in the industry. This way there is no bias or perceived bias.
There should also be some sort of group that adds content and direction to the site. They discuss and determine new sections and other ways to improve the site.

Which group would track fake members that are on the sites to promote their businesses faking to be owners to profit from the site without paying for ads.

That would be a Mod task but......
Anybody could track and report them but only the Mod has the actual police powers.

We are constantly watching for posters like this, removing their posts and banning the poster. If they haven't paid to sponsor the site, the post gets removed.

The "Mod Den" was a big deal back in Bruce days... like having the secret code or ring for entry past the rope line into an exclusive night spot.
We used to gossip and conspire about all kinds of crazy things... like how to set off Sheila vs Gary from Grip or Robbie from DarqueTan. Fun stuff. Bruce thru me out after a couple years for not enuf kudos to him or something like that. Only missed it for a bit... then "moved on" as Maria used to say.

Robert -
if it's a mods task and they know nothing about tanning and the industry then the spammers would have a field day. If it's up to your group 2 to tell the mod then it's the group 2 actually making that decision not group 1. Kathe - Yes I know that. But my question was for Robert's idea in this case. ![]()

Meaning, when certain ousted mods stop posting good readable content, (whether informational or entertaining)eyeballs go away because of a boring site. Last edited by phattmatt; 21st July 2009 at 10:23 PM.. |

You will never make anyone happy with these sorts of decisions.
That said - for those of us who have "been around" (and I'm hardly the most senior!) there is a definitely some "ruffled feathers" about the selections made. 3 of the 8 are "sponsors" and promote their side businesses to salon owners (including Frankie for MRI). Doesn't make it wrong or right, good or bad -- but that has always been a "discussion point" for these sites that has been hotly debated. Also - probably in general better to have the "admins" or "owners" replying in this thread - not an individual mod or two trying to be the "voice" for all, especially the newest member of the mod team. Robert K makes a good point - it doesn't take 20 and it doesn't take 8 -- plus admins/owners -- to "mod" a site like this where behavior issues are generally minimized. I think that is what some were trying to say -

There you agree that group 2 would need to do group 1's job because group 1 would not be armed with the same knowledge and experience in the business.

Can't "live in the past" nor intend to disrespect the current owners and the recent path chosen to improve the site--however one of the many things that made the ORIGINAL Tantoday the valuable online resource it became was the ability of salonowners to discuss and express.
Times have changed... A semi private online community, we had a nice nitch to share and exchange info with the the short lived comfort our competition was not one of the eyeballs lurking. Forums of intense exchange of information, opinions and ideas--the result: online personalities developed, emerged and a tanning community was formed. Bruce used to boast TT was better than the "rags". TT was live, the pulse of what was happening here and now. In the heyday of online, TT was the place to catch Sneak Peeks and Scoops of trade shows, lotions and equipment. Issues and theories were brought (or left) on the table. :-) Those who were around understand. Times change. Our industry has evolved and eclipsed. Today, online is a shadow of it's former "glory days"-- a decent resource yes, but not vibrant with the passion of the day. Last edited by looking_fit; 22nd July 2009 at 11:09 AM.. |
