Light Emitting Diode Tanning will virtually revolutionize the entire tanning industry. LEDs are also known as solid state lighting. Dramatic changes are unfolding in lighting technology on a daily basis. Semiconductor light-emitting diodes (LEDs), until recently used mainly as simple indicator lamps in electronics and toys, have become as bright and efficient as incandescent bulbs. They have already begun to replace light bulbs in many applications, particularly those requiring ultra long life, durability, compactness, cool operation and/or directionality (e.g., traffic lights, automotive headlamps, outdoor displays, and architectural directed-area lighting).

ITS’s long awaited UV LED tanning bed will be unveiled this upcoming year. “We wanted to wait until our technology was covered by additional patents before introducing it to the public” says Paul Spivak, Chief Executive Officer of ITS and former owner of Magic Tan.

The new technology will reduce electricity and air conditioning consumption by approximately 80%. This energy savings combined with “no more lamp changes” will greatly reduce a salon’s overhead and increase profitablity. The average life of an LED is about 100,000 hours instead of the typical 700 hours for a tanning lamp. This translates to approximately 20 years of use before ever needing to change the LEDs. LED tanning will also give a much more consistent tan. The high demand for this new technology will be so overwhelming that ITS is initially only going to sell these new tanning machines to salons that have already purchased a spray tan or light therapy machine from Solei Systems.

Great looking products. LED Tanning beds ...the wave of the future.

100,000 hours before changing lamps.....that's insane...never change lamps, always perform at peak performance.

What about electrical costs. Do they cost less to run, saving us electrical costs or do they draw about the same power?

I've also read on here that the LED's can be tuned to perform like a High Pressure bed. Is this true?

Not sure it would be all that ground breaking for the public. It would most likely enter the market as just another part of the on going diversification of salons in this industry.

I would also think the lack of warmth in an LED bed would be a problem...the public does not desire it. They want to experience warmth just like the sun. So in fact for LED beds to be popular with the "public" it would seem there would be a need to warm them artificaly...ie internal heat.

The Leds do emit some heat. Enough for the client. There are no ballasts or other heavy current devices to emit heat.

This technology sounds wonderful but how would a salon be able to offer levels of intensity?

Unlike light bulbs, LEDs are very easy to control the intensity. We are also working on a circuit that will monitor a person's skin type and automatically adjust the intensity and also the ratio of UVa to UVb.

Im assuming you will not hold the international patent seeing that a light manufacture was working on this well before you filed for the US Patent?

We only have US patents, which is all we care about. Furthermore, we have additional patents pending on how to reduce the number of leds needed. There is more to patents then just an idea. You have to also patent HOW you do something. We will have the bed available at the upcoming ITA show in September.

Ok,OK,OK this is the last one.... Why is the link to the "held" US patents on the ITS tanning page to patents that have nothing to do with tanning or LED's or anything this campany is advertising?
